NC Teacher Cadet I and II are quality high school courses that introduce students to the field of education. The curriculum introduces students to the science of learning, the role of the learner, professional expectations and responsibilities of the teacher as well as presenting the global perspective of educational systems past, present and future. The program is a model for “Growing Our Own.” Students who complete the course(s) have an informed and realistic idea of how a classroom, school, and system operate. Students also spend time in educational settings beyond their high school setting to experience the realities of classrooms at all instructional levels. It is this all-inclusive approach that sets Teacher Cadet apart as a groundbreaking future teacher recruitment tool.
The NC Race to the Top Educational Initiative recognizes the importance of recruiting and retaining the best and brightest teachers. NCRttT acknowledges the Teacher Cadet Program as being a viable recruitment tool to encourage students to enter the teaching profession right here in our own state. The plan proposes progressive recruitment models to address the need for producing a quality pool of educators. In Section D of the RttT initiative: Great Teachers and Leaders, the component for expanding teacher recruitment and licensure program specifically addresses the NC Teacher Cadet Program. NC Education Policy makers and grant writers clearly recognize the worth of Teacher Cadet. As North Carolina races to the top of educational innovation and reform, Teacher Cadet remains a positive influence for the future of teaching and learning. Our state legislators must have the same epiphany as the RttT educational policy makers- the NC Teacher Cadet Program grows future teachers, informed education advocates and proactive citizens!

SECOND EDITION NEWLY-REVISED ELECTRONIC CURRICULUM RELEASED!!
The revised edition incorporates authentic assessment, multicultural diversity, inquiry-based knowledge and questioning techniques featured in the first edition while using “Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy” to rework all lesson plans in a new format that encourages recognition and use of higher order thinking skills. Additionally, there is more information on brain research, best practices, and a new section on tips from current Teacher Cadet teachers.
